With the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind around the corner, today's biggest acts recall 1991's other classic albums.

In a few short weeks, Nirvana's epochal Nevermind album turns 20, a milestone that will be marked with much coverage, celebration and consternation in the media — and understandably so. After all, it was a game-changer in every sense of the term, the kind of album that brought about seismic shifts in music, fashion and culture in general, one that defined a generation and, as such, deserves to be mythologized. And, in the coming weeks, we suspect you'll see no shortage of stories that do just that.
While Nevermind casts an indelibly lengthy shadow, it bears mention that there were no shortage of other magical, massive and equally mythological albums that hit stores in 1991 — from mega-platinum rock blockbusters to best-kept indie secrets, and just about everything in between — classics that, had Nirvana never broken through, would probably be getting the royal treatment right now. In 1991, rock truly rocked, so, in celebration of that fact, we've asked some of today's biggest bands to discuss their favorite albums from that rather amazing year. On Wednesday, we heard from Death Cab for Cutie and Blink-182; now, Skrillex and Foster the People share their faves. Don't worry, we'll give Nevermind its due — but right now, we're paying tribute to 1991's other indispensible albums, in the words of their biggest fans. Metallica, The Black Album
The one where "old" Metallica ended and "new" Metallica began — at least according to the die-hards — the band's fifth studio album (it's technically self-titled, though, come on, who doesn't call it The Black Album?) saw them drifting away from their slash-and-burn thrash-metal past into a new, decidedly fuller phase, one fleshed out with orchestral flourishes and an increased focus on the booming rhythm section of Jason Newstead and Lars Ulrich. Though its recording was plagued by battles with producer Bob Rock, The Black Album features the band's most iconic songs — "Enter Sandman," "The Unforgiven," "Nothing Else Matters," etc. — and remains their best-selling to date, moving a staggering 22 million copies worldwide. Love it or hate it, you can't deny its impact, both on the band and the next two decades of hard rock. As Remembered by Skrillex: "Man, The Black Album was me sitting in my room when I was 9 years old, trying to learn all the songs on guitar. That was, for me, rocking out, no reservations, like I was on the stage. And learning the 'Holier Than Thou' riff was, like, the biggest achievement, because it's so hard. Every record on that album is so amazing. ... Obviously, 'Enter Sandman,' 'Wherever I May Roam' ... that was the first Metallica song I learned, after 'Enter Sandman.' I love The Black Album. It's perfect; it's a masterpiece in every way, from front to back, and it's inspired me, consciously or subconsciously, because I had such a connection to it." Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood Sugar Sex Magik
One of the most important, celebrated albums of the '90s alt-rock explosion, Blood Sugar saw the Chili Peppers grow up, get deep and, of course, become hugely famous. While songs like "Give It Away" and "Suck My Kiss" still bobbed and weaved with the band's visceral energy, it was on tracks like the massive "Under the Bridge" and "Breaking the Girl" where they slowed things down and found their biggest commercial successes. Recorded by producer Rick Rubin in a supposedly haunted mansion in Laurel Canyon, its creation has become the stuff of rock legend, and though the Peppers would subsequently sag beneath its success (guitarist John Frusciante, unable to cope with his sudden fame, quit the band mid-tour), Blood Sugar still stands as perhaps the finest accomplishment of their 28-year career. It would be nearly four years before they released a follow-up, though, given the album's hugely influential status, you really couldn't blame them. As Remembered by Mark Pontius, Foster the People: "My favorite record of 1991, and I think the only reason I got this record was my sister had it, and she's older than me, so it just sort of fell into my lap, is Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I think I have to credit that record [for teaching me] a lot of my drumming skills. I loved playing their records, and that one always stuck out to me. It had so much grit, and that was rock and roll at that time of my life." What is your favorite 1991 rock album? Let us know in the comments below! 'New year, new money. That's that,' Tip tells MTV News.

T.I. has a lot to celebrate this New Year's Eve. This time last year, the King of the South was locked up, serving an 11-month sentence for a probation violation, but since his September release Tip has been on a tear, dropping a ton of new music and landing a reality show with his wife, Tiny, on VH1.
Tip has some big plans for ringing in the new year, even though he tries to downplay things. "For New Year's I'm gonna be waitin' on F--- da City Up to drop. We got a party poppin' off down here in Atlanta, 200 Peachtree. We gonna turn up and it's basically that," he told MTV News nonchalantly. "Between the party and the mixtape, that's all I got going. New year, new money. That's that."
Tip has been dropping viral teasers for F--- da City Up for about a week; the latest one, which dropped on Tuesday, shows T.I. in the studio with Dr. Dre.
"Dre was here. He sent for me, and of course I answered. We really just turned up more than anything else. It was about creating chemistry," T.I. told MTV News while in Atlanta preparing for the release of the tape.
On New Year's Eve, T.I. and his Grand Hustle fam will host a party in the Grand Atrium at 200 Peachtree in downtown Atlanta from 9 p.m. ET to 3:00 a.m. Sounds like fun.
For those who want to snuggle up on their couch and avoid all the partying madness, MTV has your back. This year Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole, Jason Derulo and more will be on hand for "NYE in NYC 2012," which will air live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday (December 31) from Times Square, where the famous ball drops on, you guessed it, MTV.

Bieber debuts 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' video (and performs with Busta Rhymes and Usher) during 'Christmas in Rockefeller Center.'

Deck the halls! The holiday kicked into high gear Wednesday night (November 30) when New York's massive Christmas tree was lit during "Christmas in Rockefeller Center." Plenty of A-listers were on hand, including Justin Bieber, who premiered his highly anticipated video for "All I Want for Christmas Is You," featuring Mariah Carey.
Before the strings of lights were illuminated, performances from Michael Bublé, Katharine McPhee, Big Time Rush, Tony Bennett, Carole King and Neil Diamond warmed viewers up. But Bieber was the headline act of the night, giving fans some big performances and an even bigger video premiere. Bieber amped up the energy with his hip-hop-ified take on the Christmas classic "Little Drummer Boy," which included him spitting a holiday-themed rhyme. Decked in all black, the teen star had the crowd screaming. He was even joined by Busta Rhymes, who appears on the Under the Mistletoe cut. JB then slowed things down with "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)," leaving his female fans swooning as he crooned the holiday standard. He was joined by his mentor Usher for the track. "God bless and Merry Christmas," Bieber told the crowd before tossing to the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" video. The clip features Mariah Carey dressed in a sexy Santa Claus outfit standing in a department store as she dances around singing the track, almost as if she's on display for holiday shoppers. It also sees Bieber and his pals shopping for some choice holiday gifts like high-top kicks. In between performance shots of Bieber and Mariah, a street-corner Santa Claus hands out envelopes to shoppers on the street, teasing an inevitable yuletide party scene. The shoppers are then welcomed into the department store, where Justin and Mariah hand out gifts to everyone. The duo tease and flirt with each other as everyone around them unwraps their gifts. Bieber and Carey re-recorded her classic holiday tune for his chart-topping holiday album, which also features appearances from the Band Perry and Boyz II Men. They filmed the video earlier this month, just in time for the holiday season. Did Bieber get you in the holiday spirit? Let us know in the comments!

Many people were shocked by the vicious rant Deiondra Sanders tweeted about stepmom Pilar Sanders yesterday, and now Deion Sander's son Deion Jr. is putting his two cents in. Find out how he responded to his sister and see where he says his Dad stands on the situation inside.....
Seems like Deion and Pilar raised some strong-willed and outspoken kids.
After yesterday's rant, Deion Jr. apologized for how his sister expressed her anger. Then he added, "It is funny though."
He revealed that although he's proud of his sis, he and his Dad are taking the high route....so don't expect any mudslinging from Deion Sr. And he added that the family is keeping their soon-to-be stepmom in their prayers.
He closed by retweeting a comment from a friend who said Pilar is looking at apartments in Oak Cliff.
SMH.....something tells me we will be hearing more from the Sanders kids in the next few days. They are their Dad's mouthpieces.

Singer will drop official version of 'Gimme All Your Luvin' in late January.
By Jocelyn Vena
After rumors hit the Net on Wednesday that Madonna had signed with Interscope, fans waited to see if the ink had really dried on the contract. On Thursday (December 15), a rep for the singer confirmed the industry chatter to MTV News. In addition to signing with the label, Madge will drop her still-untitled album by the end of March. Madonna has already completed work on the LP and her single "Gimme All Your Luvin" will be released by the end of January, according to a press release. A demo version of the song, featuring rappers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj, leaked back in November. The three ladies recently shot a video for the track and made headlines when Nicki tweeted about a kiss she shared with Madonna on set. The three-album deal with Interscope marks the latest chapter in the Queen of Pop's career. She'll now be labelmates with the likes of Lady Gaga and Eminem. She'll also stay in her 10-year 360 deal, signed back in 2007, with Live Nation for all merchandising and tour-related matters. "We couldn't be happier to work with [Interscope's] Jimmy Iovine, [Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group] Lucian Grainge and the entire Interscope team," Madonna's longtime manager Guy Oseary said in a statement. "We anticipate a very bright future at our new home." On Thursday, the newly signed Interscope Records artist became a Golden Globe nominee for her "W.E" track "Masterpiece." "W.E" is Madonna's directorial effort, and her tune made the cut for Best Original Song — Motion Picture.

After departure of John Frusciante, RHCP's new guitarist contributed in spades to brand-new, boundary-pushing I'm With You.
By James Montgomery
Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers
Photo: MTV News
Over the course of their 28 years, change has been a near constant for the Red Hot Chili Peppers ... particularly when it comes to the man charged with playing guitar. Beginning with Jack Sherman, the Peppers have run through a string of ax men, including Hillel Slovak (who tragically died of a heroin overdose in 1988), Arik Marshall, Dave Navarro and, of course, John Frusciante, who not only played with the band the longest, but was famously responsible — in some form or another — for their biggest hits and best albums.
As you probably know by now, Frusciante continued the transitional trend when he left the Peppers during the hiatus that preceded their brand-new I'm With You album ... leaving a rather sizable hole in the band's lineup, and an even larger pair of shoes to fill. Luckily, the band didn't have to look far to find his replacement: 31-year-old Josh Klinghoffer, who was not only a friend of Frusciante but had toured with the Chili Peppers towards the end of their Stadium Arcadium trek. And no, they didn't even think about going with anyone else. "He was the only choice, and a lot of it had to do with the fact that he was our friend, and it's just rare that you have someone who's right there and completely overqualified for the job. I mean, that combination doesn't happen every day, so to ignore it would have been stupid," RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis told MTV News. "And it felt really good to call your friend and ask if they wanted to play music, as opposed to going to a stranger and asking them that." So Klinghoffer stepped in and almost immediately found himself in the studio, as the Peppers began work on I'm With You. And if he was intimidated, well, the soft-spoken guitarist certainly wasn't about to let his new bandmates know about it. "I just tried to stay in the moment, remain present," he said, smiling slightly. "I mean, I've known them for a long time, and knowing how they work and just how much they care about what they do ... The band, from its inception, has always been about four people getting into a room and making music together. And that's whether I brought in a chord progression or Flea did, or John in the past, or anyone before that, it was the same. We were doing it together." Of course, Kiedis was more effusive with his praise, saying that Klinghoffer not only fit in with the band but breathed new life into it. And it was because of him that I'm With You pushes the Peppers' sound further than it's ever gone before. "We had a load of faith in Josh coming into this band, and it was kind of understood that we are a band of equals when it comes to writing and contributing. The more the merrier," Kiedis said. "There's something that happens during that process of just playing for the sake of playing, for communicating, for letting your abilities mingle with those of the guy next to you. "Both Josh and Flea would come in with ideas, homework, that they had done, and since Flea had been to school to learn piano and theory, he was coming in more frequently with piano chords instead of bass lines," he continued. "Josh kind of understands it without school, and Flea understands it, so their conversations were quite beautiful, and it sounded like Thelonious Monk talking to Coltrane or something. I mean that, honestly."

From Britney and Jason to K-Stew and R-Pattz, we look back at the best high-profile pair-ups of the year.
By Jocelyn Vena
Jason Trawick and Britney Spears

From young love to established romantic empires, 2011 was all about PDA. Some of La La Land's most A-list couples weren't shy about flaunting the love they share. From musicians to actors to everyone in between, the last 12 months were all about sharing the love. As the year winds down, MTV News is reflecting on some of our favorite couples of the year.
Britney Spears and Jason Trawick
The couple walked red carpets, gave each other shout-outs at awards shows and even got naked together in Britney's "Criminal" video, but it wasn't until December that they decided to make it official. After two years of dating, Spears and Trawick took their relationship to the next level, with confirmation that Jason put a ring on it. The pair celebrated their love and their impending nuptials in Las Vegas. Their engagement sparked headlines and left Spears "glowing." Who is your top couple of 2011? Vote in our Newsroom poll! Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Summing up Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's year into a little blurb isn't that easy. They went to events together, and Bieber lavishly rented the Staples Center just to watch "Titanic." And when they weren't chilling out, they were giving shine to each other's hard work. Or bringing each other gifts. Remember when Bieber showed Selena his pet snake, Johnson, at the VMAs? Yes, we knew you wouldn't forget. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
The two "Twilight" stars seem poised to make our favorite couples lists for years to come. While in years past, they've remained under the radar, this year they came out of their shell and opened up about one another in interviews. Who could forget the time that K-Stew referred to her not-so-mysterious "English" boyfriend in an interview? We're assuming not R-Pattz.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z
OK, so Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been together for, like, an eternity, but it wasn't until this year that the pair really had everyone buzzing. When Beyoncé stepped out at the VMAs, her expanding midsection and flashy performance was the ultimate pregnancy announcement. Jay-Z didn't seem to mind all the attention. He celebrated the baby news in the audience with his pal Kanye West. Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose
Amber Rose rebounded from her relationship with Kanye West by falling in love with Wiz Khalifa. The couple took the world on their wild relationship ride, from doing interviews together to sparking rumors that they had tied the knot. These two kept everyone talking and they don't seem to mind the attention, or spending lots of time with one another. Did we forget your favorite couple of 2011? Let us know on Facebook!

Nickelback's Chad Kroeger
Photo: Getty Images
When Nickelback set out to record their brand-new album Here and Now, which hit stores Monday (November 21), they decided not to stray far from the mantra that has made them one of the decade's biggest-selling acts: Namely, keep it simple, stupid. "If we had a 'vision,' it was pretty much 'Record 11 songs, try to make sure they don't sound like any of the other 11 songs, and make 'em good,'" frontman Chad Kroeger said. "That was about it."
If Kroeger sounds like he's joking, he assures you, he's not. After all, for more than 15 years now, Nickelback have done one thing — write and record the kinds of songs that sound great played very loudly, be it on the radio, in the parking lot or inside venues that house professional sports franchises — and have done it exceptionally well, to the tune of some 50 million albums sold worldwide. And Here and Now seems destined to follow in those footsteps, both sonically (have you heard "Bottoms Up"?) and commercially. Then again, the latter doesn't seem to matter all that much to Kroeger and company, which may very well be the secret to their success. "Did you read the bio [for the new album]? Oh my God, it's a thrill ride. It's like my mom wrote it. She's like, 'They've sold this many records worldwide, they've won all of these accolades, the band has set these records,' and you just go down it, and there's almost nothing about the new album," Kroeger laughed. "The adjectives are just like, 'Wow, this dude got a thesaurus for Christmas for sure, and he just blew the dust off it.' "You know what? I think [sales] mean more to my mom. My mom is just pumped when this stuff comes out," he continued. "But I think sometimes, we'll be sitting at dinner, and we'll look at each other, if it's just the four of us, those are those little secret private moments where we'll look at each other and be like, 'That was pretty cool.' Or, you know, 'Pass the butter.' " And so, on Here and Now, Nickelback return with much of the same that has led them to such lofty heights. They'll make no bones about it, either. It will probably sell a bazillion copies and launch singles onto modern rock radio for the foreseeable future. And it will most definitely be coming to an arena near you very soon. And all those things would be near-certainties even if the band decided to go with their original title for the album, which, truth be told, would've been pretty awesome, really. "It's called Here and Now because it just represents a snapshot in time, a snapshot of who we were when we made it," Kroeger explained. "And of all the names we had, it was better than Wizard Beating."

Chili Peppers reveal secret to their longevity — and their brand-new album — to MTV News.
By James Montgomery
Anthony Kiedis and Josh Klinghoffer of Red Hot Chili Peppers
Photo: MTV News
You would think, given everything that went into the making of I'm With You, that perhaps the Red Hot Chili Peppers would be content to ride off into the sunset. After all, their place in rock history is more than secure, and, really, at this point, why would they endure another hiatus or departure from the fold?
Then again, if you really think that, then perhaps you don't know the Red Hot Chili Peppers. To them, calling it quits has never been an option, and, recharged by the addition of new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and their brand-new album, they're raring to go another 28 years. "I feel as excited or more excited about this period — from the writing to the recording to the playing to the anticipation of going on tour — as I've ever felt about anything that we've done, from the beginning," RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis told MTV News. "Sitting here, doing these interviews, listening to Josh — I often just go into a daydream of playing these songs live. And it's the same feeling I got in 1983, when I couldn't sleep the night before a show, and if I did fall asleep, I'd have a surreal little dream about the show itself, and, you know, I still have that feeling about this record ... it's a good feeling." And really, that feeling is the key. Because unlike the thousands of bands that have risen, peaked and crumbled during the Peppers' career, they've never faltered, even during their darkest hours (and there have been plenty of those). But ask them to explain their rather remarkable longevity, and they'll chalk it all up to one basic feeling: love. It's what's pushed them to remarkable heights and pulled them back from the brink more times than they'd care to count. And with I'm With You, that love remains stronger than ever. "There's probably 1 billion keys, but love could be the strongest: love of what we do and each other," Kiedis explained. "And just being fortunate enough to create a band that survives this long kind of generates its own sustainability." "And trusting yourself enough to be yourself and to take yourself as far as you can go," bassist Flea added. "Not ever trying to do any kind of art to fit in to anything else and just being yourself. We've gone out of being real cool, not real cool a bunch of times. So believing in that love: That's the key."

Kesha has joined forces with the Human Rights Campaign to help celebrate National Coming Out Day on Tuesday (October 11). The pop singer created a special message T-shirt, featuring a purple zebra, that proclaims "We R Who We R," the title of her hit anthem about individuality. The shirts sell for $35, with all proceeds supporting the HRC's work to achieve equality for the LGBT community. According to the HRC website, only 1,000 shirts will be produced. Others are also using the day to bring awareness to LGBT issues. Several notable celebrities will be honored by the Equality Forum, which is hosting an event and profiling notable LGBT members in pop culture. As LGBT History Month rolls on throughout October, Ricky Martin, Wanda Sykes, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy and Pedro Zamora, a former "The Real World" castmember turned AIDS activist, all will be profiled by the organization. "We're the only minority worldwide that's not taught history at home, in school or religious institutions," said Malcolm Lazin, Equality Forum's founder and executive director. "Like every group that's been marginalized, it really helps to make the case why we should take real pride in ourselves and our community." Since launching the program five years ago, over 200 icons have been profiled, including Jane Lynch, Lady Gaga and Neil Patrick Harris. Lazin called LGBT month "empowering and life affirming." The message comes amid increased awareness about young people being bullied, including MTV's A Thin Line campaign. The MTV film "DISconnected," which premiered Monday night, focuses on issues in a world where technology controls personal lives. "I see the viciousness of people every day," said "Jersey Shore" star Vinny Guadagnino on the "DISconnected" after show. "I kind of want to be a soldier in the field, so to speak, and try to combat the negativity with a positive message. I want to help open people's eyes up, like this movie does, to the negativity." Check out the Facebook page for "DISconnected."

"He is the master." At the premiere of "War Horse," praise like this for the movie's director wasn't hard to come by.
For Tom Hiddleston, working with a director as talented as Steven Spielberg meant more than just acting under a guy who has made dozens of timeless films. Hiddleston told MTV News on the red carpet premiere of "War Horse" that working with Spielberg was more like a crash course in classic movie magic.
Spielberg recently directed the "Thor" star in "War Horse," a World War I-era drama about the connection between a boy and his horse. Hiddleston shared a few of the lessons he learned from the legendary director.
"He's a master craftsman," he said. "And what I learned from him, really, is that he's so impeccably prepared."
Hiddleston recalled Spielberg's habit of storyboarding many of the film's scenes, but that never stopped the director from making changes on the fly and running with them. "He turns up on set every day with an open mind and an open heart, because he still doesn't know where the magic is. And every day, there is magic that will happen."
But for Spielberg to find that magic, he has to keep both this cast and crew on their toes. For Hiddleston, this often meant changing direction on a moment's notice. "He just has to be sharp enough and on point enough that he's there to catch it and to keep his crew nimble and fleet of foot," Hiddleston explained. "So that if he suddenly sees something like the sun's in a particular place or something's happening between two actors, or in this case, an actor and a horse, that he can capture that, the beauty of the accident, and it lasts forever on film."
